SPACECRAFT MATERIALS – HANDS ON ACTIVITY IN ATTENDANCE
Satellites help us in our daily lives and beyond. Thanks to them, we can understand how our planet changes. But have you ever wondered how a satellite is made? Let’s find out which are the best materials to make a satellite by directly testing its properties. We will understand their different masses, their electrical conductivity, how they react to magnetism. And much more besides. The activity will be carried out as part of the IRIDE project, Europe’s most important low-altitude Earth Observation satellite programme, which will be carried out in Italy and completed within five years with the support of the ESA – European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency thanks to PNRR resources. The constellation will also support the Civil Protection and other administrations to combat hydrogeological instability and fires, protect coastlines, monitor critical infrastructures, air quality and weather conditions. Finally, it will provide analytical data for the development of commercial applications by start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises and industries.
